BB&D Member Jim Deutsch Prevails in the Missouri Supreme Court on Litigation over August 5 Ballot Measure

BB&D Client Receives 50% Reduction in Tax Bill Following Appeal to the State Tax Commission

In a recent order, the Missouri State Tax Commission ruled that the St. Charles County Assessor had incorrectly assessed property owned by a Blitz, Bardgett & Deutsch client at more than twice its actual value.  The property is improved with a multi-screen movie theater.  After conducting an evidentiary hearing, the Tax Commission reduced the client’s 2011/2012 tax assessment, and thus its tax bill, by more than 50.5%.  BB&D attorney Chris Bauman and other litigation team members represented the client during the appeal. BB&D Obtains Tax Exemption for Church; Saves North County Head Start Program

St. Louis law firm Blitz, Bardgett & Deutsch civil litigation attorney Chris Bauman, assisted by other firm litigation team members, successfully represented a North Saint Louis County church in an appeal to the Missouri State Tax Commission (“STC”) asserting that the church’s property qualified for a property tax exemption.  BB&D attorney Paul Woody filed testimony with the STC showing that the property was being used for charitable purposes consistent with the church’s mission and therefore the building qualified for a tax exemption.  After reviewing the testimony, the County Assessor agreed to stipulate to the exemption.  As a result of the settlement, the church will be able to continue its ongoing relationship with the building’s tenant, the YWCA, which uses [...]
